Trade
Name: Matai
Other names:
Botanical Name: Prumnopitys traxilohia, Podocarpus spicatus
Density: 615 kg/m3 @ 15%
Price: From $120/m2 Matai is
a beautiful native timber of New Zealand, traditionally used extensively
as flooring, finishing lines and furniture due to it's excellent machinability,
ability to be sanded to a very smooth surface and it's attractive appearance.
Matai is
a light brown colour, with the heartwood taking on slight orange tones.
Very popular as a tongue and groove floor, and sought after as replacement
boards for existing polished timber floors, Matai continues to be a strong
seller.
Length spec
of the timber has been declining rapidly as it's scarcity increases, meaning
that it is difficult to get the long runs we could once expect. This makes
it ideal for machining into the Richwood end-matched profile, machined
at our special plant in Wellington. The end-matched profile gives much
quicker laying times and eliminates waste almost entirely.
